Strawberry Fields Eco Lodge in the Konso Special Woreda, Southern Ethiopia

SFEL seeks Hospitality Supervisor to assist with operation of the project’s cafeteria and accommodation at a standard acceptable to westerners.

Strawberry Fields Eco Lodge is a community oriented business operating in rural south Ethiopia in Konso Woreda, an area noted for its unique local culture and indigenous agricultural system, but suffering from repeated food insecurity due to re-occurring droughts in the last 50 years. SFEL promotes community well-being through Permaculture design training and consultancy services delivered to local schools, as well as though developing community based tourism activities to generate alternative income for the community grass-roots. The project combines a lodge, farm, organic restaurant and Permaculture school as well as organising off-site trekking and cultural activities. The area is peaceful, but facilities and infrastructure are poor and the environment is challenging though beautiful.

JOB DESCRIPTION (Hotel Supervisor)

Ų Supervises implementation of roles of subordinate staff working in the Restaurant and Lodge: receptionist, waiter, cleaners, store-keeper and guards.

Ų Covers receptionist, waiter and cashier roles if/when necessary.

Ų Receives guests and shows them to their accommodation. Gives explanations on project concept, objectives, current situation, history, facilities and services to guests.

REQUIREMENTS

Ų Honesty and dependability.

Ų High level of motivation (hard working); willing to work flexible and un-usual hours and challenging conditions!

Ų English language competency and willingness to learn new lingua.

Ų Ability to deal with people in a firm but gentle way, relentlessly persist with enforcement of standards, to communicate with those that are poor in, or lack English altogether through demonstration/careful explanation, and never allow them to lapse into negligence!

Ų Working experience in a relevant role in a similar sort of environment.

Ų Ability to operate in an environment where honesty is not assumed as the norm and all transactions need to be checked and balanced carefully.

SALARY

Ų US$200/month (equivalent in local currency) + food and accommodation + possible internet usage 1/2hr per day (if established on site in time).

CONTRACTUAL TERM

Ų 6 moths to 1 year with 3 month probational period.
